Man with ms and his dog to walk coast to coast on charity mission
An inspiring young man who has multiple sclerosis (MS) will begin a mammoth journey this month, walking across the breadth of Ireland with his beloved dog in order to raise money for the patient organisation, MS Ireland.
Paul McGovern, aged 35, has dedicated the past nine months of his life to training for this incredible 148 mile mission with his dog, an Alaskan malamute named Nanook.
They will kick off their Charity Walk 4 MS Ireland in Salthill, Galway, on Saturday March 28 and aim to reach Paul’s home town of Dunleer, Co. Louth by Easter Monday, April 6.
Paul is planning to arrive in Westmeath on Tuesday, March 31, and he will be staying in Athlone all day on Wednesday, April 1, fundraising for MS Ireland.
The charity walk will also take them through counties Longford, Meath and Louth and Paul is calling for people to support them by joining their walk along sections of the route.
Diagnosed with MS in 2009, Paul has had some serious setbacks with his health over the years.
He is now doing well and dreamed up this charity fundraising mission to increase awareness and understanding for MS in Ireland, and raise much-needed funds for the charity organisation.
