Ireland stars brother about to sign for athlone
THE brother of Republic of Ireland star Robbie Brady looks set to sign for Athlone Town.
Garreth Brady, 21 later this month, has been training with the Town for the last week or so, and scored an excellent goal in Tuesday night’s 4-3 pre-season defeat against Longford Town.
Manager Eddie Wallace told the Westmeath Independent that he expects Brady to sign for the club in the very near future, ahead of the start of Athlone’s First Division campaign on March 6. Brady previously played for Dundalk, Shelbourne and Drogheda Utd.
“Young Brady is a very decent midfield player, a good presence and someone we think will sign in the very near future,” said Wallace, who also poured cold water on local rumours linking former Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers centre-back Aidan Price with a move to Athlone.
Wallace did, however, say that there is room in his squad for the signing of another centre-back. He also said that if he manages to get another centre-back, his squad is then likely to be complete.
Robbie Brady, of course, is the more well-known brother of Garreth Brady, having joined Manchester Utd from St Kevin’s Boys in 2008. He made one appearance for United before sealing a move to Hull City. Robbie Brady has eleven caps for the Republic of Ireland and scored an excellent couple of goals in last November’s international friendly win against the United States in Dublin.
