Buccaneers trio named in ireland u20 rugby squad
Three Buccaneers players – Rory Moloney, Stephen McVeigh and Cian Romaine - have been named in the Ireland U-20 squad for the forthcoming RBS Six Nations Junior Championship.
A former student at Clongowes Wood College, McVeigh played for the famed Co. Kildare side in the 2014 Leinster Schools Senior Cup final, in which they were defeated by Blackrock College.
McVeigh has featured for the Buccaneers senior team on a number of occasions this season. Stephen is from Glasson and has also shown considerable prowess in Gaelic football for Tubberclair at underage level.
Moloney is an exciting flanker who has previously captained the Ireland U-19 team. A native of Abbeyleix, he has also played for Ireland U-18s as well as featuring on various underage Leinster and Connacht teams. Moloney has played with the Connacht Eagles in the British & Irish Cup as well as for Buccaneers in the Ulster Bank League.
Moloney was on the Cistercian College, Roscrea team that reached the 2011 Leinster Senior Schools Cup final.
The Ireland U-20 team, coached by Nigel Carolan, will begin their Six Nations campaign with an away game against Italy on February 6.
Ireland take on champions France in an Electric Ireland home fixture at Dubarry Park, Athlone on Friday, February 13. Kick-off 7.05pm.
Tickets for the France game are now on sale at The Bounty or by contacting Buccaneers Administrator Geraldine at 086 1732711 or by email - rugby@dubarrypark.com
Concession tickets for under-15s are being distributed to schools and rugby clubs and one lucky supporter will win an Ireland jersey signed by Robbie Henshaw, the Connacht and Ireland rugby star who hails from Athlone.
