Roscommon senior final in doubt pearses lodge appeal
Padraig Pearses have lodged an appeal with the Connacht Council over the result of their controversial defeat to St Faithleach’s in the semi-finals of this year’s Roscommon SFC.
Connacht Council secretary John Prenty confirmed to the Westmeath Independent today (Monday) that the appeal had been received by the provincial body.
The Connacht Council Hearings Committee will meet on Wednesday night to discuss the appeal.
A decision is expected to be made known on the matter that night.
Pearses were defeated by St Faithleach’s in Kiltoom on Saturday night, October 4 on a scoreline of 0-9 to 1-5. However, the defeat came in highly controversial circumstances - particularly due to the disallowing of a last-gasp ‘point’ by Niall Daly of Padraig Pearses. Had this ‘score’ stood, the match would have ended in d draw.
Referee Michael Brehony was escorted off the field by stewards afterwards amid very heated scenes.
As things stand, the Roscommon SFC final between St Brigid’s and St Faithleach’s is due to go ahead this Sunday at Dr Hyde Park (3.30pm). Brigid’s are bidding to win their fifth senior county title in a row.
