Athlone literary festival wont go ahead this year

It has been confirmed this week that the annual Athlone Literary Festival will not go ahead in 2014.

The event, which has taken place over the previous 14 years, brought writers such as Pat McCabe, Dermot Healy, Dermot Bolger and Nuala Ní Chonchúir.

In a brief statement issued yesterday (Wednesday), the Athlone Literary Festival team said: 'Due to circumstances beyond our control, Athlone Literary Festival 2014 will not take place this year.

'We regret to have to inform all our followers and participants who supported the festival so loyally over the last number of years.

'We hope to return next year with a renewed enthusiasm,' it concluded.
