Roscommon voters to elect td on october 10
The Roscommon-South Leitrim by-election has been confirmed for Friday, October 10.
The Government yesterday moved the writ, both for the Roscommon-South Leitrim and Dublin South-West by-elections.
It means voters across South Roscommon will cast their ballots in a Dail by-election prompted by the election of Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan to the European Parliament.
Already ten candidates have declared for the by-election race.
These are: Cllr Ivan Connaughton (FF), Emmett Corcorcan (Independent), Tom Crosby (Independent), Michael Fitzmaurice (Independent), Cllr Des Guckian (Independent), Cllr Maura Hopkins (Fine Gael), Senator John Kelly (Labour) Cllr Martin Kenny (Sinn Féin), John McDermott (Independent), Gerry O’Boyle (Independent).
It’s likely to be the last time voters in the area will get to cast their ballot in the constituency.
At the next general election, the constituencies will be reconfigured and a new Roscommon-Galway three-seat constituency, incorporating the Ballinasloe area, will be established, along with the return of the old Sligo-Leitrim constituency.
