Disappointing weekend for local GAA clubs
THERE was a raft of senior and intermediate matches in the Westmeath GAA Championships at the weekend, with mainly disappointing results for teams in this part of the county.
In the Shay Murtagh Precast Westmeath SFC, both Garrycastle and Athlone suffered defeats in Moate on Sunday evening, against St Malachy’s and Coralstown/Kinnegad respectively, while Castledaly were beaten by St Loman’s. Maryland, meanwhile, suffered a four-point loss to Mullingar Shamrocks.
In the Intermediate Champions, there were wins for Caulry and Rosemount, but Tubberclair lost out narrowly to Milltownpass, while Tang were held to a draw by Ballynacargy. There will also be a full round of fixtures this coming weekend in the Senior and Intermediate Championships. See this Wednesday’s Westmeath Independent for match reports from last weekend’s fare and fixtures for the coming weekend.
