Athlone butchers praised by local youth project

Athlone butchers have been praised by the Gateway Youth Project for their support of a recent American-themed July 4 bbq and games event.

The occasion in St Mary’s Hall on Northgate St involed all teenagers attached to the project and surrounding areas. It also incorporated the National Play Day theme of ‘Going out to Play’. The bbq was aimed at promoting the role of young people in the Gateway Youth project as well as highlighting some of the great things that young people do in their community and it was a great success!

In between manning the bbq and dishing up some tasty treats for many other youths, the young people also managed to organise a number of fun events including giant jenga, table tennis, American skipping and much more.

Special praise must be set aside for the generosity of local businesses without whose support the bbq event would never have taken place. Thanks to Gerry Fallon (Athlone Army) for donation of a bbq, Callinaan’s Butchers, Dunning’s Butchers, Waldrons, Hynes Butchers, Pat Smyth’s Butchers, Lawlor Meats, and Hanley’s Cash and Carry who kindly donated meat and other products towards the event.

A special word of thanks also goes to Annette Barr Jordan and Westmeath County Council for funding the National Play Day celebrations.
