It's all action for Roscommon GAA
BEFORE Roscommon take to the field in Saturday’s All-Ireland U21 final against Dublin in Tullamore, the Roscommon senior ladies team will try to kickstart the day for the county when they take on Antrim in the Tesco HomeGrown Division 4 League Final (1pm).
In a busy weekend for Roscommon football, the county U16 ladies team begin their Connacht Championship campaign with a very tricky start against Galway on Sunday (5pm) in Ballyforan.
After a bad start against Galway in the Minor Championship, Roscommon got back to winning ways in their last two outings against Leitrim and Sligo respectively.
They took on Leitrim on Easter Saturday in a sun-drenched Kilglass as part of the official opening of their new pitch. Roscommon made the better start and were 1-4 to no score ahead after 15 minutes. Leitrim hit back with a goal in the 18th minute. Both sides added two further points in the final ten minutes of the half to leave it Roscommon 1-6, Leitrim 1-2 at the break.
Two points from Leitrim reduced the deficit to two points within six minutes of the restart. Roscommon restored the four point advantage by the three quarter hour mark. Leitrim struck with two goals within a minute to take the lead for the first time; Leitrim 3-4, Roscommon 1-8. This was short-lived as Roscommon hit 1-3 without reply in the final ten minutes to finish on a scoreline of Roscommon 2-11, Leitrim 3-4.
On Friday evening last, the minors headed to Grange in Sligo to take on the home side in what was a must-win game for Sligo if they were to have any chance of making the final. This game was evenly balanced in the opening 30 minutes. The half-time score read Roscommon 4-6, Sligo 2-6.
Roscommon ladies held the Yeats girls scoreless in the second half while they tagged on a further 1-5 to their own tally to leave it 5-11 to 2-6 at the final whistle. Roscommon are through to the Connacht B Final against Leitrim and this will take place on Monday next, May 5 (time and venue TBC).
Meanwhile, the Roscommon U14 girls are through to the Connacht A final against Mayo and this will take place on Sunday, May 11 at the Centre of Excellence at 7pm.
