Athlone singer Jay Boland continues to impress on The Voice, having come through the first live round successfully.
The first 12 acts on the show performed live and on Team Kian, Jay Boland had the highest score and went straight through to the next stage. Kian had to choose between Pauric McLoughlin and Laura O’Connor. He felt Laura could go further in the competition and sent Pauric home.
Singing first on the show, Jay sang the song of the moment, Happy by Pharrell Williams, helped along by an energetic dance routine from The Voice of Ireland dancers.
It earned him 20 points, crucially more than the 19 earned by the other two performers from Team Kian.
Jamelia gave Jay six points, stating: 'That was a vocally great performance, but for me as a performance I don’t think it was great you need to do a lot more to win this competition.'
Bressie went one better, with seven points, telling the young Athlonian: 'I think you are one of the strongest male vocalists in the competition.'
Dolores too awarded Jay seven points.
'I saw a lot going on, the backing singers held you, but I think what you did was good.
Jay's mentor Kian Egan said: 'You are an amazing singer, it does fall to finishing the right song. We need to lock in who you are and what defines you as a singer.'
