Turkish delight for Westmeath Independent competition winner

When Anne Gately saw a stranger waving a Westmeath Independent newspaper on her doorstep last Wednesday morning, she admits to being a bit confused and wondering what was going on?

However, after opening the paper as she was told to by her visitor - all was revealed in pages of the paper. “So big and bold and looking at me was my name,” Anne laughs of first learning that she was the overall winner of the Westmeath Independent holiday competition, in association with Grenham Travel and Sunway Travel, of a week for two in sunny Turkey.

“I was shocked, surprised and delighted. I never expected to win, I was hoping to of course, but I never thought it would happen. I was really delighted,” the Baylough resident told the Westmeath Independent.
“I’m definitely looking forward to it (the trip) with the miserable weather we’ve been having the last while...It’s absolutely brilliant,” she said, adding since then she has been inundated with good wishes and congratulations from local people about her good fortune.

“It was a place we have often talked about, but we just never got there. Now, we have the ideal opportunity presented to us on our doorstep,” Anne jokes, adding her husband Tommy is delighted with her win and is already looking forward to heading to Kusadasi later this summer. Group Sales Manager with Celtic Media Group, Padraic Martin, aka the man on the doorstep, said the Westmeath Independent was delighted to offer loyal readers such a great competition with the chance to win such a fantastic holiday.

“Based on the interest it generated its clear that the people of Athlone know a good opportunity when they see one. It has been brilliant to see so many readers dropping in to our office every week with their entries over the course of the past month or so,” enthused Mr Martin. “We were thrilled with the numbers of entries received”.
