River level set to stabilise
The level of the River Shannon is due to stabilise over the next five days, Athlone Town Council has stated.
The council has issued a statement this afternoon saying the river still remains high but added that flooding to low lying houses has not occurred.
'Based on the current weather forecast, the council is expecting river levels to stabilise in or around current levels over the next five days,' the statement added.
The council stated that the situation will be kept under constant review and a further update will be issued if the situation changes significantly.
