Ward guaranteed medal at World Championships

Moate's Joe Ward is guaranteed at least a bronze medal after his victory over Russian Nikita Ivanov in the quarter finals of the World Boxing Championship in Kazakhstan this afternoon.

Ward overcame the reigning European Champion in the light heavyweight division after the referee stopped the fight at the end of the first round, due to what appeared to be a blood injury.

It means Ireland is guaranteed two medals after the quarter final victory of Jason Quigley.
