Castledaly to meet Garrycastle in play off as Tubberclair face Shandonagh
By Kieran Galvin
The prospect of a local derby between Athlone and Garrycastle in the quarter-finals of the Westmeath SFC was quashed earlier this week - after the confusion over the qualification situation was finally cleared up.
Athlone clinched a place in the knockout stages last weekend with a dramatic comeback victory over Bunbrosna, and they will face Tyrrellspass in the quarter-finals in Moate on Sunday.
It was originally believed that Tyrrellspass and Castledaly would meet in a Section B play-off, and that would have meant a clash between Athlone and Garrycastle in the quarter-finals.
However, it has been clarified since that Tom Coffey's Tyrrellspass charges progress to the quarter-finals on scoring difference.
Instead, it will be neighbours Castledaly and Garrycastle who will meet in a play-off this Sunday evening in Cusack Park (6.30pm).
The Westmeath IFC Section A play-off between Tubberclair and Shandonagh is going ahead in Páirc Chiarain, Athlone tonight (Wednesday) at 8pm. The game will be preceded by a Minor Club FC meeting between Athlone and Moate All Whites (6.30pm).
The winners of the Tubberclair v Shandonagh clash will face Caulry in the quarter-finals in Moate this Sunday at 5pm.
