Sinn Féin hosts meeting on Midland wind turbines
Sinn Féin is today (Tuesday) facilitating a meeting between Oireachtas members and representatives from the wind turbine action groups in the Midlands.
Athlone councillor Paul Hogan was involved in organising the meeting following a representation made to him at a recent information meeting in Ballymore.
Cllr. Hogan said: “I am delighted that Sinn Féin has facilitated a meeting In Leinster House and that we have extended the invitation to all parties and none to attend. It is very important that we keep the issues and concerns regarding Industrial Wind Farms on the agenda.
“I recently attended an Information Meeting in Ballymore. I listened attentively to the concerns raised by local people at the meeting. Concerns regarding the height, scale, noise, health, decrease in price of land, the allowed distance away from dwellings, and environmental issues.
“Local concerns must be addressed before any plans to erect new wind turbines are finalised. It is the aim of the British government to source new energy supplies from Ireland for its own domestic market. The concerns of local residents in Ireland must not be swept aside to satisfy the demands of British consumers.'
He concluded by saying he was looking forward to 'a very informative and productive meeting' today.
