Almost 4,000 local students to begin State exams
Almost 4,000 students in Westmeath and Roscommon are due to sit their State exams, which get underway tomorrow (Wednesday).
A total of 3,884 students are registered to sit their Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied and Junior Certificate exams in the two counties according to the State Examinations Commission which is based in Cornamaddy.
In Westmeath, 690 females and 708 males will sit the Leaving Cert (a total of 1,398 students) while 16 females and 27 males will sit the Leaving Cert Applied, a total of 43. Some 661 female students and 717 males will sit the Junior Certificate exams, a total of 1,378 students.
In Roscommon 277 female students and 242 males will sit the Leaving Cert (a total of 519 students) while 14 females and 10 males will sit the Leaving Cert Applied, a total of 24 students. There will be 284 female students and 238 males undertaking the Junior Cert in Roscommon, a total of 522.
Nationwide, a total of 60,243 students will sit the Junior Cert, made up of 29,422 females and 30,821 males. A total of 53,682 will sit the Leaving Cert across the country, made up of 26,536 females and 27,151 males, with a further 62 students sitting exams in Libya, split evenly between male and female students.
All three State exams begin today (Wednesday). Junior Certificate exams begin with English all day and will finish on Thursday, June 20, with Latin, Classical Studies, Italian and Ancient Greek scheduled for the final day of the exams.
The Leaving Certificate kicks off with English this morning and Home Economics in the afternoon, while the exams will conclude on Friday, June 21, with Religious Education, Applied Mathematics, Italian, Japanese and Technology scheduled on the final day of the exams.
Leaving Certificate Applied starts with English & Communication this morning, with Social Education scheduled for the afternoon. Leaving Certificate Applied finishes on Thursday, June 13, with Active Leisure Studies and Craft & Design.
