Kilmeen Drama Group wins RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival
Kilmeen Drama Group was announced as the winner of this year’s RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival at an awards ceremony on Saturday night.
The Cork group also won in 2011 and 2012 and this year staged Synge’s ‘The Playboy of the Western World’. The group’s Nora Scannell also picked up the award of Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her depiction of the Widow Quinn. The group also picked up the Abbey Theatre award.
Robert Massey of Prosperous Dramatic Society picked up the award for Best Actor for his role as Martin in The Goat or Who is Sylvia?, while the Best Actress Award went to Maura Clancy of Corofin Dramatic Society for her portrayal of Hester Swane in By The Bog of Cats. Best Actor in a Supporting Role went to Brendan Dunlea of Ballyduff Drama Group for his role of Jack in Dancing at Lughnasa.
Best Director went to Pat Whelan of Bridge Drama for Out of Order; Best Stage Setting went to John Clancy of Corofin Dramatic Society for By The Bog of Cats; Best Stage Lighting went to Brendan Dunlea of Ballyduff Drama Group for Dancing at Lughnasa and Best Stage Management went to Edel Cassidy and Martin O’Donohoe for Corofin Dramatic Society for By The Bog of Cats.
The John Butler Scholarship to DLI Summer School went to Dean Gorry of Silken Thomas Players; the Drama League of Ireland Summer School Scholarship went to Donal Ryan of Thurles Drama Group and the Gormanston Summer School Scholarship went to Sylvia Anderson of Bangor Drama Club.
