McCormack called into Ireland schools’ panel

Athlone Community College student Eoin McCormack was a late addition to the Republic of Ireland squad for their opening game in this year’s Centenary Shield against North Ireland last Friday.

McCormack recently scored in ACC’s agonising All-Ireland Schools semi-final loss, having played a key role in their Leinster success.

The Ballinasloe youth has been a key figure for Athlone Town youths over the last couple of seasons.

An attacker with a keen eye for goal, McCormack and his team-mates went down 1-0 to Northern Ireland at Institute’s home ground.

Former Athlone Town player Val Feeney, who now plays with Limerick FC, was also part of the squad, who play their next match away to Scotland next Wednesday (March 27).

McCormack's home town team, Ballinasloe Town, hosts its biggest ever senior fixture this weekend when Enda Concannon’s side face Kilbarrack Utd in the quarter-finals of the FAI Junior Cup (Saturday, 6.30pm, Curragh Grounds).

Kilbarrack were the runners-up in last year’s competition and will provide stern opposition for Ballinasloe, who recently sealed a place in the last eight with victory over Clonmel Celtic
