Man hospitalised after Ballinahown crash
One person was taken to hospital on Monday morning following a single vehicle crash near Ballinahown. The accident happened just before 7am close to Kilgarvan Bridge, when the car hit a telecom pole and left the road before ending up in the ditch. A unit of Athlone Fire Brigade attended the scene to help free the driver from his car. The male driver of the vehicle, believed to be in his 30s, was later taken to hospital by ambulance with what were thought to be non life threatening injuries. He was the sole occupant of the car. Motorists experienced long delays as a result of the accident until the road was cleared. The situation was worsened by an ongoing diversion on the stretch at Ferbane to facilitate ongoing roadworks.
