Former Irish Times editor joins Midlands 103
Former Irish Times editor Conor Brady has joined the board of local radio station, Midlands 103. The Offaly native, who served as editor of the Irish Times from 1986 to 2002, is the newest director at the Tullamore-based radio station, which broadcasts to Westmeath, Offaly and Laois. Born in Tullamore, Mr Brady has deep connections with the region and is a frequent visitor to the county, spending time in his holiday cottage in the Slieve Bloom mountains. Since leaving the top job in Irish Times, Brady has served as a member of the Garda Ombudsman Commission and launched a crime novel 'A June of Ordinary Murders' earlier this year. Welcoming Mr Brady to the board, Managing Director of Midlands 103 Albert Fitzgerald described him as a "distinguished journalist who will bring a wealth of media experience the station." In addition to Conor Brady, the company has also appointed prominent Midlands businessman Christy Maye as one of nine directors on the radio station board. A founding father of the Irish disco scene, Mr Maye has extensive retail and hospitality interests in both Tullamore and Mullingar. Albert Fitzgerald hopes the appointment will help the station to successfully navigate through the present economic challenges. "We are one of the few media outlets who have not implemented pay cuts since the crisis began and we have, through the hard work of a talented team, remained profitable and successful. The new directors will be instrumental in enhancing both our product and business proposition," he concluded
