Donohoe's emerge as the winners in Buccs golf classic
DONOHOE CONSTRUCTION, captained by Padraig Donohoe, clinched victory in Buccaneers Golf Classic held at Glasson Golf Hotel and Country Club. They tallied an impressive 91 points but it took their superior 'back nine' score to pip Moate Community School, who also recorded a score of 91 points. Speaking at the presentation ceremony on behalf of the winners, Michael Ganly complimented Buccaneers on running such a fine event and he wished the club every success in the coming season which kicks off shortly. He noted that it was great to support Buccs, particularly to acknowledge all the volunteers there who put so much time and effort into coaching especially at underage levels. He commended Glasson Golf Hotel & Country Club on the fine state of the course and thanked his playing partners. On behalf of the runners-up, Moate Community School, Charlie Doyle also thanked his team-mates who included All-Star Dessie Dolan. Charlie was happy to again support Buccaneers and urged greater support for the midlanders on match days at Dubarry Park. Opening the formalities, club president Raymond Duffy welcomed all participants and thanked them for their continued support of this event despite it being rescheduled. A decent turnout of over two dozen teams participated in this annual event and he hoped all enjoyed their day at the Glasson course which has such wonderful and scenic facilities. He thanked the host golf club and was particularly indebted to the event organiser Hugh Conlon and Eamonn Fagan, who has been a driving force in Buccaneers for many years, and also club administrator Geraldine Kenny. BUCCS HOME TO SEAPOINT BUCCANEERS, fresh from their opening friendly win away to Corinthians last week, entertain top Dublin junior club Seapoint at Dubarry Park on this Wednesday when the floodlit action kicks off at 7.45pm. It will be the first opportunity for home supporters to run their critical eyes on the current squad and new coaching team in what should be an entertaining contest. CONGRATULATIONS Congrats to Tom Silke and his bride Bernadine O'Sullivan who were married last weekend. THIRDS TRAINING Training for the Thirds squad commences on Tuesday and continues twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays thereafter. Players are requested to be togged and ready to go by 7.15pm; otherwise, they will incur the wrath of one Martin Webster, so here's looking for a decent turnout.
