Moate Youth Theatre at Tuar Ard

The annual production from the Moate Youth Theatre played to full houses on both Wednesday and Thursday of last week. Mary Poppins was the main story on offer but as always this show was a tale of two halves with the opening half giving the children an opportunity to show their various talents with a mixture of song, dance, recitation and comedy. Rufina Recks has masterminded many productions over the years but I am sure she was very proud of the high standard delivered by her charges in this year"s production. This is a great training ground for young children who learn to act as part of a team and who enjoy the thrill of performing in front of a live audience and the confidence that this gives them. In the first half the audience were treated to songs from Hairspray, the Wizard of Oz, Oliver, Calamity Jane, Annie Get Your Gun, Jungle Book, Lion King and many more. Comedy slots and recitations added to the variety and the overall standard was very high with all the principals delivering on the night. After a welcome coffee and cream cake during the break, we were treated to a production of Mary Poppins, delivered with wonderful singing and excellent acting from all the cast. I have avoided naming individuals because if I started this page would not be big enough to cater for all the magic moments we were treated to by a talented young group of actors with clarity in their diction and great expression in their delivery. Moate Youth Theatre will resume in September. For further details contact 057 9331118.
