Westmeath face Lilywhites

On Sunday next, April 12th, Westmeath will contest the Division 4 final of the 2009 National Camogie League. Kildare will provide the opposition in the final, after the Lilywhites defeated Tyrone 2-9 to 1-6 in a play-off match in Celbridge last Sunday. When Westmeath played Kildare in the opening round of the league earlier this year, Westmeath were 4-6 to 2-6 winners. As the scoreline would suggest, that particular league fixture was very keenly contested by the two teams. There is no reason to doubt that next Sunday"s final will be equally as well contested. Westmeath have made excellent progress under the stewardship of inspiring team manager Martin Craig and his selectors and back-up team. Great credit goes to the executive of the Westmeath Camogie Board, personified by Chairperson Elizabeth Shaw, Vice Chairperson Aileen Lawlor, Secretary Tom Hackett, Treasurer Mark Scally and Registrar Mary Heffernan-Glynn. At the time of writing, the venue and time for Sunday"s final had yet to be confirmed, but the county board has urged members and players of all camogie clubs in Westmeath to travel in support of the county team.En route to the final, Westmeath defeated Kildare 4-6 to 2-6; Tyrone 7-7 to 1-8; Carlow 3-10 to 1-3; and Roscommon 3-11 to 1-7.
