Charlie McGettigan to host special concert
Charlie McGettigan will take to the stage of the Dean Crowe Theatre on Saturday, March 28 next, as part of a special fundraising concert in support of Athlone Town FC. Members of the public are encouraged to come along and show their support for this fundraising event and support on the night will be provided by local performer Angela Bannon. An evening with Charlie McGettigan is a mix of gentle comedy, thought provoking songs and stories told as only he can. Charlie"s own songs such as "Feet of a Dancer" (recorded by Maura O"Connell), "A Bed for the Night" recorded by Ray Lynam and "If Anything Happened to You" recorded by Eleanor Shanley are interspersed with the great songs of Charlie"s era from people like the Beatles, James Taylor, Tom Paxton, John Prine and many more. Since winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 with Paul Harrington singing the Brendan Graham song "Rock n Roll Kids" Charlie has been performing in a solo capacity. He has released five albums of his own songs along the way including "In Your Old Room" and "Family Matters". His current album "Stolen Moments" was recorded in Nashville Tennessee and produced by the legendary Bil Vorndick who has produced people like Alison Krauss and Peter Rowan.
