Allez le Marist!
The spirit of France came to the Marist College last week when the French Theatre for Schools (FTFS) production company visited the Retreat Road education centre to put on a live show of "Le Cabaret". FTFS is the original French language theatre company with over 25 years of experience producing plays especially for Irish secondary school learners and last week they treated 4th, 5th and 6th years in the Marist College to a fun-filled afternoon of laughs and language immersion. As well as having their own four experienced actors, FTFS felt the need to bolster their cast and couldn"t have picked a better bunch of lads than Marist students David Bass, Davie Henshaw, Howard Costello, Lucas Vaupel and Eoin Neeson. Speaking after the show, Marist College French teacher Fiona Burke described the play as 'a wonderful experience' and went on to say that she hoped they could stage a performance like this again in the future. 'It was a wonderful experience for the students; live drama and total language immersion for the afternoon. The bonus was to see our own Marist language scholars take part with excellent fluency and confidence. Who will ever forget David Henshaw in peasant costume speaking French like a native? We hope to repeat the experience next year with a new production,' she enthused. The Marist College Athlone would like to thank the French Theatre for Schools (FTFS) for coming to put on the show.
