Alienware unaffected by Dell announcement

There is good news for Athlone-based computer manufacturer Alienware as it will be unaffected by Dell"s announcement to lay off 1,900 employees at its Limerick base last week. Gaming manufacturer Alienware, which is based in Blyry, is wholly owned subsidiary of Dell, but will not be impacted by the computer giant"s decision to move its manufacturing arm to Poland. In response to a query from the Westmeath Independent Senior Vice President of Alienware Brian M Joyce said: 'Dell"s recent announcement exclusively impacts Limerick staff, as I understand it. While we are a wholly owned subsidiary of Dell, Alienware manufactures PCs here in Athlone with completely separate staff and processes. This announcement does not affect our operations here.' Dell announced last week that it would move its computer manufacturing arm from Limerick to Poland over the next 12 months in a major cost-cutting move, which will result in almost 2,000 of the plant"s 3,000-strong workforce losing their jobs. Dell acquired gaming PC producer Alienware, which has its European corporate office in Blyry, Athlone, in 2006. While Alienware is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Dell, the world"s largest PC maker, it has continued to operate separately from Dell. Alienware was first established as a privately-owned company in 1996 and manufactures high-performance desktop, notebook, media centre and professional systems.
