David McLynn

Over the past decade, David McLynn of No Ego Promotions has brought some of the finest performers in the country to Midlands venues such as The Bog Lane Theatre in Ballymahon, Mullingar"s The Stables and The Shack and Palace Bar in Athlone. Next up is Dublin"s finest, Damien Dempsey, who will be making his way to The Bog Lane Theatre on Sunday, December 7, next for what will no doubt be another sell-out performance. This week we caught up with David. First memory? Probably crawling around the kitchen floor on my hands and knees following my mam around and getting under her feet! When did you first realise that you wanted to get into promoting gigs? After setting up one gig in my local pub in December 1997 I knew that it was for me after that. It was a great sucess and and an even better night. I caught the bug that night. Favourite TV show? Probably Prision Break but I"m just after getting into watching Fringe. Liking that so far. Last CD you bought? I tend to not buy CDs for ages and then I go and buy a whole load together so last weekend I picked up the new Mogwai album and also picked up the album by Foals. Really like the Foals" album. I also had a beautiful limited edition version of Sigur Ros" new album in my hands. It was like a family photo album, very big and very beautiful. It was priced at €38 but when I brought it to the counter it flashed up as €86. Nearly had a heart attack. Turns out it should have been the latter so I had to leave it behind, unfortunately. Favourite movie? I love Trainspotting. But I also love the Sigur Ros movie "Heima". Beautiful shots of Iceland. Hope to go there some day. Favourite food/drink? I really like Chinese food and really like Eastern European beers. Favourite holiday destination? Any chance I get to head to the States I love it. Just love it there. Best advice you"ve ever been given? Just to stick to your guns and go with your heart on things. Biggest thrill in life? Working with some of my favourite acts is just a massive thrill. Sometimes I just have to pinch myself. Any big acts coming our way soon? Well Gemma Hayes plays the Stables in Mullingar next Saturday, November 29, then Cathy Davey the following Saturday, December 6, while Damien Dempsey plays the Bog Lane Theatre in Ballymahon on Sunday December 7.
