Blushing men and PD demise at Athlone Toastmasters

Athlone Toastmasters held an action-packed meeting last Tuesday in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel. Topicsmaster Mary Naylor challenged members with an array of topics including, why do men blush, change in the USA, the demise of the Progressive Democrats, modern art and movie making. All members got a chance to give an impromptu speech. All impromptu speeches are valid. No one is contradicted or challenged at a Toastmasters meeting. Members encourage each other to improve their speaking skills by speaking at meetings. The prepared speeches were highly entertaining and educational. Joanne Kelly presented a highly amusing speech on lies, white lies, bad lies and the giveaway signs of lying. Marie Lough gave an informative speech on what you can do with your mobile phone and Mel Keyes entertained the club with stories of a real American Crazy Horse of the First Nation. The club Christmas night out will be on Friday, December 5. A special bring-a-friend night will be held on Tuesday, December 9. Members are invited to bring a guest to introduce them to the benefits of Toastmasters. There will be spot prizes, festivities and Christmas cheer for the last meeting of 2008. If you are interested in improving your speaking skills, guests and new members are always welcome at the bimonthly meetings of Athlone Toastmasters. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 8pm in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel. The next meeting is on Tuesday, November 25.
