Fine Gael seeks NRA funding for South Roscommon roads

Fine Gael councillors John Naughten and Ollie Moore are seeking funding from the National Roads Authority (NRA) to repair roads in South Roscommon that they say have been badly damaged as a result of heavy vehicles using the roads. Cllr Naughten said last week there are a number of roads in Drum, Creagh, Moore and Taughmaconnell badly damaged as a result of heavy trucks using the roads. He said the sides of many roads were badly damaged and it was important they were repaired ahead of the winter months. 'We"re looking for funding from the NRA to do repair works on them and make them safer for the winter,' he said. 'As of yet the council has got no funding, but we"re looking for funding for remedial works.' He said the roads had been damaged as a result of works being carried out on the new N6 due to the increase in heavy construction vehicles using the roads. 'It"s very urgent, it"s extremely necessary that the works take place before we are into November and December or there could be a serious accident,' he said.
