Athlone should have driving school centre - Hogan
A driving school centre should be opened in Athlone so people can have a safe environment in which to learn how to drive. 'If the government are serious at reducing deaths on roads maybe money should be invested in providing such facilities,' said Cllr Paul Hogan, during last week"s council meeting. He said that many people can learn to drive on farm land, on beaches or in private carparks, but there is no such option here in the town. He said there was such a facility successfully operating already in Leinster. Around five acres of council land would be needed for the centre said Cllr Egbert Moran. 'We should see if a private investor out there would consider it.'
