Midland Warriors to play at Magners League opener
Midland Warriors Rugby club will be taking their U8s and U10s teams to Galway this Friday to play in a pre-season match against West Offaly Lions in the half time interval in the opening Magners League between Connacht and the Ospreys. The teams will also act as a guard of honour to line up on the pitch as both senior teams run onto the pitch at the commencement of the match. The Midland Warriors U10s team will be captained by William Higgins (Moate)and will be ably assisted by his two deputy captains Daniel Ennis (Ballymore) and Connor Claffey (Moate) The Midland Warriors U8s team will be captained by Adam Turley (Castledaly) and will be ably assisted by his two deputy captains Killian Lawlor (Rosemount) and Paul Heffernan (Moate). Midland Warriors RFC was formed two years ago to represent the districts of Moate, Castledaly, Ballymore, Rosemount ,Mount Temple/Baylin, Tubber and other surrounding areas. The season will officially start on the Sunday, September 28 with training at 11.30 am at Moate Castle Showgrounds with U8s,U10s,U12s and U14s teams being represented. Beginners in Rugby at all ages are especially welcomed. As Ian Rowlands PR officer of Midland Warriors explains 'We are particularly keen to hear from GAA players who are looking to continue their sporting activity as the GAA season draws to a close. Many of our players parents are keen GAA supporters and believe that their child"s future GAA performance will be improved by the complementary ball handling and running skills used in rugby.I n addition their child"s fitness will be maintained and strengthened through the winter months.'
