Local political trio jet off in honour of St. Patrick!
With local Minister of State, Kevin “Boxer” Moran in Kenya, Athlone Mayor Aengus O' Rourke in the USA and Drum native and Minister for the Environment, Denis Naughten, in Canada, it would seem that no far-flung destination is out of bounds when it comes to flying the Irish flag high in honour of St. Patrick!
Just as “Boxer” touched down in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, the country was bracing itself for heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding, which should put the Independent Alliance Minister's vast flooding experience to good use.
Meanwhile, Minister Denis Naughten shared a video to social media of his trip to the Niagara Falls, on the US-Canadian border, where he pushed a button which magically turned the torrents of water a bright green in honour of our patron Saint!
Having been invited to represent the people of Athlone at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in the US East Coast city of Providence, Rhode Island last year, Mayor Aengus O'Rourke took up the invitation to attend the 2018 Parade last Saturday and, while in the US, he also travelled to Boston to visit the head office of the pharmaceutical firm, Alkermes, which has a facility in Monksland.
